Nothing at all. CallRecap detects and records calls automatically. When you hang up, transcription and AI analysis start immediately. Your summary, action items, and reminders are ready within a minute.

Regular phone calls (incoming and outgoing) are captured by CallRecap on its own.

WhatsApp, Telegram, and other VoIP calls are captured when CallRecap Connect is installed. Connect also improves recording quality for regular calls on newer Android phones.

CallRecap transcribes in 50+ languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Hindi, Turkish, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, and more. Language is detected automatically — no configuration needed.

CallRecap Connect

CallRecap Connect is a free companion app that unlocks CallRecap's full potential. It enables:

VoIP recording — WhatsApp, Telegram, and other apps

Better audio quality — captures both sides of the conversation more clearly on modern Android devices

Fully automatic operation — once set up, it runs silently in the background

Think of it as a lightweight extension that gives CallRecap the permissions it needs to work at 100%.

Google Play doesn't allow apps that use the accessibility service for call recording. This is a platform policy, not a safety issue. Many well-known call recording apps use the same approach with a companion app available outside of Play Store.

Connect is developed by the same team behind CallRecap, signed with the same security certificate, and doesn't collect any personal data.

Yes. CallRecap Connect is built by the same team behind CallRecap. It uses a signature-level permission to communicate exclusively with CallRecap — no other app can interact with it.

Connect doesn't have internet access on its own, doesn't store recordings, and doesn't collect any data. All audio is sent securely to CallRecap for processing.

The Accessibility Service is an Android feature that lets apps observe what's happening on screen. Connect uses it for one purpose only: to detect when a call starts in any app (WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.) so it can begin recording.

Without this permission, there's no way for an app to know when a VoIP call is active. Connect doesn't read your messages, passwords, or any other content on your screen.

On Android 13 and newer, apps installed outside Google Play need an extra step to enable accessibility services. This is a standard Android security feature.

Go to Settings → Apps → CallRecap Connect → ⋮ (menu) → Allow restricted settings. After that, go back and enable the accessibility service normally.

No. Connect is extremely lightweight. It only becomes active when a call starts and goes back to sleep when the call ends. Most users see less than 1% battery usage per day. It has no background sync, no internet connection of its own, and no data processing.

Recording & quality

The most common reasons:

Permissions not granted — Check Settings → Permissions in CallRecap. All permissions should show a green checkmark.

Battery optimization is killing CallRecap — Go to your phone's Settings → Battery → find CallRecap → set to "Unrestricted" or "Don't optimize".

VoIP call without Connect — WhatsApp and Telegram calls require CallRecap Connect to be installed and active.

Contact is excluded — Check Settings → Excluded contacts in CallRecap.

Modern Android limits what can be recorded during phone calls. Installing CallRecap Connect significantly improves this — it can capture both sides of the conversation on most devices.

If you already have Connect installed and still experience one-sided recording, your device may have additional restrictions. Our AI transcription still works well with single-side audio in most cases.

VoIP recording depends on your Android version and whether you have CallRecap Connect installed:

Android 10–12 — CallRecap can record VoIP calls on its own on many devices. Installing Connect further improves audio quality and reliability.

Android 13–14 — VoIP recording requires CallRecap Connect. Without it, Android blocks apps from capturing audio during calls. With Connect, both sides of the conversation are captured on most devices. On some models, the caller's voice comes through clearly while the other side may be softer — our AI transcription handles this well.

For the best experience on any version, we recommend installing CallRecap Connect. It takes less than 2 minutes to set up and makes a big difference in recording quality.

Yes. Go to Settings → Excluded contacts in CallRecap and add anyone you don't want to record. Calls from those contacts will be automatically skipped.

CallRecap works during Bluetooth calls on most devices. However, some phones route audio differently when Bluetooth is active, which can affect recording quality. If you notice lower quality, try switching to speaker or earpiece mode for important calls you want to capture clearly.

Transcription & AI

Each minute of audio processed for transcription counts as one AI minute. A 5-minute call uses 5 minutes. Minutes are rounded up to the nearest minute. Very short calls (under 20 seconds) don't count.

Free: 60 min/month · PRO: 600 min/month · Max: 1,800 min/month. All reset on the 1st of each month.

Your calls are still recorded and saved as audio files. Transcription and AI analysis are paused until your minutes reset on the 1st, or you upgrade your plan. You won't lose any recordings.

CallRecap uses state-of-the-art AI models for transcription. Accuracy depends on audio quality and language, but in most cases it's near human-level. Clear audio from CallRecap Connect produces the best results.

You can always re-transcribe a call if needed: open the call detail, tap the menu (⋮), and select Re-transcribe.

After transcribing a call, CallRecap's AI identifies action items — things you promised to do, deadlines mentioned, or tasks discussed. It also suggests calendar events for meetings and appointments mentioned in the call.

You can check off action items as you complete them and add events to your calendar with one tap.

Privacy & legal

Recording laws vary by country and region. In many places, only one party (you) needs to consent. In others, all parties must be informed and agree. It is your responsibility to know and follow the laws that apply in your area.

We recommend informing the other party at the start of any call you intend to record. CallRecap provides the tools — using them responsibly is up to you.

Audio files are stored locally on your device. When a call is transcribed, the audio is uploaded briefly to our secure servers, processed, and permanently deleted immediately after. We never keep copies of your recordings.

Transcriptions and summaries are stored in your account and can be deleted at any time. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

Yes. You can request full account deletion at callrecap.app/delete-account or by emailing info@callrecap.app. All your data — transcriptions, summaries, and account info — will be permanently removed within 30 days.

Billing & subscription

You can upgrade directly inside CallRecap. Tap the Subscription option in the app and choose your plan. Payment is processed through Google Play Billing, safe and easy.

Go to Google Play Store → Subscriptions → CallRecap → Cancel. You'll keep PRO access until the end of your current billing period. Need help? Email us at info@callrecap.app.

This is usually a brief sync delay. Close CallRecap completely and reopen it. If the issue persists after 5 minutes, email us at info@callrecap.app with your account email and we'll resolve it quickly.
